November 13th, 2013: Encyclopédie The students were given a first-hand look at Diderot’s Encyclopédie. Discussions included  an explanation of the forming distance between church and state in 18th century France. The students talked about the subsequent understandings taking place in France, emphasizing the necessity of human understanding, memory and, above all, reason.
